We are delighted to announce that Janet Lawton will be taking on the responsibility of acting Group Scout Leader (GSL) at 1st Hazel Grove. Janet takes over from Lee Allsopp who has been GSL for the last four years. Janet’s new role takes responsibility for the entire Scout Group, made up of the different sections including our Beaver colonies, Cub packs, Scout troop and our partnered Explorer unit.
Although Lee Allsopp is moving on to pastures new, we are pleased to announce that he is taking on the responsibility of District Commissioner (DC) for Hazel Grove, Bramhall and Woodford, known as Ladybrook Valley. He will have oversight of nine local Scout Groups including 1st Hazel Grove, but with two boys in the Scout Group, you will see him helping out at all our usual events throughout the year!
Janet is an experienced member of the team and has a long history with 1st Hazel Grove having run our Sycamore Beaver Colony for almost 10 years, organised countless Family Camps and has served as Assistant Group Scout Leader (AGSL) for the last four years.
Within local scouting Janet is a member of the district appointments committee, meeting and advising new adults wishing to take on a role in scouting. She is also a training adviser to our own adult volunteers who are working towards their scout leadership award and at county level she is a member of the adult training team who are responsible for delivering the Scout Associations Adult Development courses across Greater Manchester East.
Janet has two young daughters and is married to Graeme Lawton, one of our scout leaders.
Janet is keen to hear from parents who would like to get involved with any aspect of the Scout Group. As well as people who are able to offer a regular time commitment to support on our section nights, we are always looking for more help with fundraising, activity skills, fun days and family camps.
